When staying in Rome, you can’t get a much better location than the Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome. Located just moments from the Spanish steps in a beautiful 17th century building, it’s welcomed many celebrities such as Tom Cruise and Sean Connery.
Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome Review
Location-wise, it’s one of the best hotels in central Rome, being at the top of the Spanish steps and close to the luxury shopping on via Condotti. You can either take the lift up or down or it’s an easy walk.
The doormen sprung into action opening the door for us, and the hotel’s concierge Cristian Galotti was on hand to advise us about the best places to visit in the area. We also noticed the hotel’s electric Twizy hire car parked outside – very practical for whizzing around Rome.

Check in is quick, efficient and courteous and we particularly like the fact that staff are very proud of this luxurious hotel. Just one suggestion, it would be great to tell customers about the different areas of the hotel.
We didn’t realize until breakfast the next day that there were such lovely lounges on the upper level.
Accommodation at Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome
This 5 star Rome hotel features 192 rooms including 24 Suites. Our private terrace definitely had the wow factor, and a great place to either get a suntan or relax in the shade thanks to the sun umbrella.
Our executive bedroom was spacious and well equipped. The marbled bathroom was elegant though the fittings could do with a slight update. There is everything you need here – hairdryer, bathroom scales and soft towelling robes.
Amenities at Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome
The luxurious toiletries are by Irene Forte. There is complimentary wifi and a large wide screen TV plus a safe for valuables. We were treated to a complimentary fruit platter and a bottle of rich red wine which we enjoyed on our sun terrace.
Dining at Rocco Forte Rome
This is where the Rocco Forte Rome really comes into its own. There’s a whole host of indoor lounges, two charming second floor courtyards and a rooftop bar with great views over Rome.
Julep Herbal & Vermouth Bar is a vibrant and cosy spot. We love the tapestry style wallpaper here. Cielo rooftop bar is a must visit, with panoramic views over Rome, comfy seating and a very hand awning if a storm is brewing.
When in Rome, it would be rude not to have an aperol spritz 😉 The most widely drunk aperitif in Italy is made up of three parts prosecco, two parts Aperol and a splash of club soda.
Of course they have plenty of mocktails too if you’re not drinking alcohol. There’s also an open air kitchen where the chef will rustle up a tasty hot or cold meal for you.
The views from here are really impressive, this is the Monument Vittorio Emanuele II, also nicknamed the giant typewriter or wedding cake. The hotel is also a great base from which to explore the Colosseum, the Vatican and Rome’s many hidden gems.
The elegant and airy Mosaico Restaurant is a perfect spot for lunch or dinner. We didn’t get time to dine here but enjoyed breakfast in the courtyard. There’s also Da Sistina for Roman cuisine with a contemporary twist in a relaxed environment.
Breakfast at Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome
You can either take this indoors or in one of the two lovely courtyards and choose a shady or sunny spot. There is a really good buffet spread and you can also order hot dishes for an additional charge.
I was being virtuous and opted for a healthy breakfast of smoked salmon with freshly grilled vegetables, which were perfectly cooked to retain all their flavour. My husband had other ideas in mind and went for a sizeable but very tasty full English breakfast – well he does have to try out a different option!
It was a great end to our stay and we were sorry to leave.
Final Thoughts on Rocco Forte Hotel de la Ville Rome
This is the perfect place to stay in Rome if you’re looking for a central location with great service and outside space galore – highly recommended.

Mr S is all about location, location, location, so he’d be very happy here 🙂
Lots of love,

It was good exercise as well going up and down the Spanish steps though we did resort to the lift when it was raining!
The terraces were one of my favourite things about the hotel, great to sit outside with a drink!
Thanks for stopping by Grace, glad you liked it
Greetings from a sunny Woburn where we’re staying this weekend. I’d have loved to zip round town in that little car, not sure it even had windows!
Ah, Rome! So sweet memories. And that hotel, so luxurious and just in the middle of everything! What more can you want?
It was great to be so central as we walked most places
It’s a great hotel, does feel like a Roman villa in the courtyard
That car was brilliant, I’d love to return and whizz around in it
We had fun browsing the shops in via Condotti and had a great lunch at Ginger which you may know
It’s good that you stayed at the place closed to the shops! Very convenient!
Very handy and that area also has lots of museums and restaurants
It was a delicious breakfast!
Thank you, glad you liked them
My pleasure Albert, have a great end to your weekend
Good to know! I’m planning to go to Rome..
You’ll have an amazing time, I’ll be doing a few more blog posts about things to do there – so much to cram in!
The central location is perfect and your balcony is very sweet to sit out on after a hard days sight seeing Lucy x
That was a lovely balcony, very Roman in style so we felt like locals!
Yes we didn’t bump into him sadly! Someone convinced me he was at an event recently, it was just a guy who looked like him, not even a look a like!
So picturesque and the food looks amazing too!

It was very picturesque and we had a great breakfast there
What an elegant looking place, the interior matches the outside perfectly. It is gorgeous
That’s a very good point Ali, the interior is very much in tune with the exterior
I love the central location of this beautiful hotel. It reminds me that we need to go back to Rome soon, and maybe that car would be a bit of fun also.
I’d feel like I was in the De Vinci code in that car, even though most of that was filmed in Paris!
Looks like you had an amazing stay. When I finally make it to Rome, a hotel I shall put on the list to consider. Xx
Great review Suze, it looks so beautiful!! I defo want to visit!!
It looks gorgeous. I think I would book it for the balcony views and the location alone!
That view is from the rooftop bar but some of the rooms have views over the Spanish steps – fantastic!
Wonderful photos! I agree the Intercontinental Rome has such a great location. Loved the service too.
You were there just a few weeks before me I think!
Thanks Cvetina, I see why it’s one of your faves
The views were fantastic from the rooftop and also from some of the bedrooms of the Spanish steps
When I was still working as a travel consultant in Dubai, I used to always sell a room in this property when a client is staying in Rome. I have never been there myself but we’ve had numerous brochures and training about that property that I feel like I already know it by heart. I am always sure that clients will come back to me with a positive review of it.
If you’ve written this post back when I was still a travel consultant, I probably would’ve given this link to my clients who are going there for a more personal review. Loved it! :p
That’s very kind, and must have been so interesting working in Dubai. Hopefully one day you’ll get the chance to visit this hotel
