A few of these airlines have rolled out new products since I first published this list. Qatar Airways has started introducing their Qsuite Next Gen on select routes, with even more privacy and a larger screen.
Emirates’ new A350s are entering service with updated first class suites. Singapore Airlines continues refining their Suites product on the A380.

Equipped with the first business class sliding door feature in their suites, the opulent seat options of Qatar Airways offer a private oasis in the sky. From designer pajamas to a delicious à la carte on-demand menu and lcd screen, this airline has it all.
Qatar Airways only offers first class on its A380s, with eight open seats and no doors, on select routes such as Singapore, while its Qsuite business class has sliding doors on most long-haul flights. A new first class is due on the Boeing 777-9 from late 2026 or early 2027.
3. Cathay Pacific
Founded in 1946 by ex-Air Force pilots Roy Farrell and Sydney de Kantzow, Cathay Pacific has previously been voted the best airline in the world four times at the World Airline Awards.

Their new 777-300ER cabins have the widest first class seats in the world, at 38 inches wide. The first class suites, known simply as The Suite, have a self-contained shell seat with a 43 inch 4K TV monitor. This Suite with a closing door flies on Boeing 777-300ERs between Tokyo and major cities including London and New York.
5. Korean Air

The A380 and Boeing 777 Private Suites have a fully flat bed and noise-cancelling Bowers & Wilkins E1 headphones designed specifically for Emirates. There’s a luxurious Byredo skincare collection and access to the A380 Shower Spa.

7. Etihad Airways

The First Apartments and The Residence, both with sliding doors, fly on the A380 between Abu Dhabi and select cities including London, New York, Paris and Tokyo Narita.
8. Virgin Atlantic
With a slogan like ‘Depart the Everyday’, it’s easy to see why this airline has made the upper cut. A glass of champagne and a seat that converts into a fully flat bed – Virgin Atlantic Upper Class is a luxury travel experience you can write home about.
The lavish The Loft onboard lounge, available on the Airbus A350, is a great place to set up a workspace away from your designated seat. So, be sure to pack in your portable laptop power bank if you plan on working on-board.
We fly regularly with Virgin Atlantic to Miami and Los Angeles, and we particularly like their airport lounges at London Heathrow and in the States. Virgin Atlantic doesn’t offer first class, but Upper Class on the A350-1000 and A330neo has suites with closing doors, while older Boeing 787s have open seats.
9. Japan Airlines

Air New Zealand doesn’t offer first class. Instead, the front row of four Business Premier Luxe suites, with closing doors, sits on retrofitted Boeing 787-9s, and all 14 Dreamliners should have them by the end of 2026. The standard Business Premier seats have no door.
11. Swiss International Air Lines
Operating since 1952, Swiss International Air Lines is known for its minimalist, design-forward first class cabin and high-quality Swiss ingredients in the galley. Swiss offers first class on its Boeing 777-300ERs from Zurich to major long-haul destinations. The new SWISS First Suite Plus with doors flies between Zurich and Boston and Seoul.
12. Air France
Providing a sense of je ne sais quoi to your trip through the clouds, this fancy commercial airline will captivate you with all its posh trimmings.
Embarking on a La Première flight includes an air of exclusivity, as you’ll have a private suite to enjoy at your own leisure. While traveling to your destination, you’ll appreciate Air France’s elegant fine dining and entertainment lounge on board.
La Première is only available on Boeing 777-300ERs from Paris Charles de Gaulle, with the new suite on routes including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, Singapore, Tokyo Haneda and Abidjan. Each suite has a thick floor-to-ceiling curtain rather than a door.
13. American Airlines
Creating a dazzling emblem of top-quality air carriers and innovation, American Airlines is a well-known pinnacle of top luxury airlines.
From priority privileges to the delectable cuisine of the renowned chef Julian Barsotti, a first class flight on this airline will be sure to make you feel pampered. We’ve flown with American Airlines a few times and always appreciate the friendly service.
American is ending Flagship First on its Boeing 777-300ERs from 19 November 2026, replacing it with Flagship Suite business class seats that all have privacy doors.
14. British Airways
Serving the epitome of extravagance and top-of-the-line services since 1974, this United Kingdom flag carrier airline is the best of the best.
Offering a coveted afternoon tea service, you’ll get to nibble on scrumptious finger sandwiches in traditional British fashion.
Amenity kits are provided by The White Company in Club World, BA’s long-haul business class. In first class, you receive a seven piece skin and body care collection by Elemis, as well as Temperley London loungewear, slippers and an amenity bag. The full flat bed in first class has a microfibre and foam mattress topper and 400 thread count linen, so passengers feel like they’re drifting off to sleep on a pampering cloud.
First class is available on long-haul routes from London Heathrow, flown by Boeing 777, 787 and A380 aircraft. The first class seats are open, while the Club Suite business class seats have closing doors.
British Airways have long been criticized for their legacy Club World yin-yang layout, where alternating seats face backward and forward. Neighbours in middle or adjacent pairs literally stare at each other during takeoff and landing until a motorized privacy divider was raised. Thankfully they’re replacing them with the modern Club Suite featuring direct aisle access and privacy doors.
15. Hainan Airlines
Hainan Airlines is one of only ten airlines rated 5-star by Skytrax, and it’s the largest privately-owned carrier in China. The first class product is considered one of the best in Asia, with 180-degree flatbed seats, designer amenity kits, and a mix of Western and Chinese gourmet cuisine.

STARLUX Airlines, a relatively new Taiwanese carrier launched in 2020, operates flights across Asia and to North America, with a growing network from its Taipei hub. The A350 is the only aircraft in Taiwan equipped with individual sliding-door spaces in both first class and business class.
The cabin, designed by BMW Designworks, offers a “Home in the air” concept with dynamic welcome panels and elegant ambient lighting.
First class is available on its Airbus A350 fleet, with routes from Taipei including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix and Prague. Each of the four first class suites has high walls and a tall privacy door.
First-class amenities include chauffeur service to and from Taipei airport, FPM “Fabbrica Pelletterie Milano” luxury amenity kits and Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless noise-canceling headphones.
17. Saudia (Saudi Arabian Airlines)
Named Best Cabin Crew in the Middle East and Best Airline Staff Service in the Middle East at the 2026 World Airline Awards, Saudia has undergone quite a transformation in recent years. The flag carrier of Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in modernizing its fleet and elevating passenger experience.
The airline’s first-class offering features private suites with fully flat beds, premium dining with both international and Middle Eastern cuisine options, and luxury amenity kits. Saudia’s commitment to improvement is evident in their enhanced cabin crew training, upgraded airport lounges, and partnerships with luxury brands.
Saudia offers fully enclosed first class suites on select Boeing 777-300ERs, which have flown to destinations including Los Angeles, New York and Washington. Its Boeing 787s have no first class, and Washington switched to the 787-9 from July 2026.
18. EVA Air
Ranked 11th in the world at the 2026 World Airline Awards, Taiwan’s EVA Air is a quiet achiever that frequent flyers rave about. It also claimed the title of World’s Best Premium Economy Class, and placed fourth for World’s Best Economy Class.
EVA Air doesn’t offer first class, so Royal Laurel business class is its most luxurious cabin. Its current seats are open, with no doors, until the new Royal Laurel suites arrive on the A350-1000.
We’ve flown with EVA Air several times, most recently to try its One Ticket, Two Destinations offering from London to Bangkok and Taipei and back. It’s a brilliant way to explore two Asian cities in a single trip.
What impressed us most was the friendly, genuine service from the cabin crew. The entertainment system lets you choose content to suit your mood, and the food was consistently tasty throughout our journeys.
In Royal Laurel Class, EVA Air’s business cabin, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner seats were styled by BMW’s Designworks. They’re 23 inches wide, transform into 76-inch flat beds and come with an 18-inch high definition touchscreen.
19. Lufthansa
Germany’s flag carrier has reinvented its long-haul experience with Allegris, a €2.5 billion overhaul and the largest in the Lufthansa Group’s history. Lufthansa was ranked third for World’s Best First Class at the 2026 World Airline Awards.
Allegris First Class, with floor-to-ceiling walls and closing doors, is available on selected A350 flights to and from Munich. The seat is nearly one metre wide and you can warm or cool it to your liking.
Travelling as a couple? The Suite Plus features two seats that convert into a double bed, and its design won a 2026 Red Dot Award.
First class guests are treated to caviar service, pyjamas and a Porsche Design amenity kit. Allegris First Class currently operates on selected A350 flights to and from Munich, so check your aircraft before booking.
We’ve flown with Lufthansa several times, and the experience is perfectly pleasant when everything runs smoothly. However, when we’ve faced delays, we were left to sort out hotels and arrangements ourselves.
If this happens to you, remember that EC 261 rules require EU airlines to provide care during long delays, including meals and hotel accommodation where needed. Keep all your receipts so you can claim the costs back.
20. Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines was awarded winner of “Europe’s Best Food & Beverage Service” award and “Europe’s Best In-Flight Entertainment System”at the 2026 Best Airline Awards organized by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX). This airline serves as a bridge between continents with its Istanbul hub connecting over 300 destinations worldwide.
Skytrak ranked Turkish Airlines fifth in the top 10 global airlines, with improvements in cleanliness, staff presentation and the handling of delays and cancellations. Nevertheless, when we flew with them from London to Istanbul and back we experienced a delay of over 3 hours, and they did not respect EC 261 legislation relating to compensation.
How to Fly First Class for Less with Points and Miles
A first class ticket can cost many thousands of pounds, but frequent flyers rarely pay full price. Loyalty points and airline miles are the smartest way to experience the world’s most luxurious cabins for a fraction of the cost.
UK travellers can collect Avios through the British Airways Club and redeem them for premium seats on BA and partner airlines such as Qatar Airways, Iberia and American Airlines. Points from everyday card spending, supermarket schemes and hotel stays can also be converted into Avios.
Credit cards that earn flexible points, such as American Express Membership Rewards, let you transfer to several airline programmes. That flexibility means you can hunt for award seats on whichever airline has availability, rather than being tied to one.
Some programmes are known for generous first class availability. Korean Air’s SkyPass is regarded as having some of the best first class award availability of any frequent flyer programme.
Finally, always pay off your card balance in full each month. Interest charges quickly wipe out the value of any points you earn.
