The iconic Hotel Eden Rome is an oasis of calm in the heart of the city and has been welcoming celebrities, royalty and other illustrious guests since 1889. A member of the Dorchester Collection, it’s one of the most famous 5 star hotels in Rome and the perfect choice for the first leg of our Roman holiday.
Hotel Eden Rome Review
The smartly uniformed staff welcomed us at the door and showed us inside this luxurious hotel, which has an open plan lobby with many antiques and floral decorations. We loved the lounge area with its pretty butterfly pendant and cosy sofas.
Checking in only took a few minutes and we were swiftly shown to our junior suite. It would have been a nice touch to offer a glass of water or a drink as it was 34 degrees outside, but we requested a bottle as soon as we got to the room which was quickly delivered.
Accommodation at Hotel Eden Rome
Our room had been recently renovated and we particularly liked the high little foyer area and separate walk-in wardrobe. The bed linens were very high quality and there was lots of space to move around and a desk for writing postcards.
Hotel Eden Rome is one of the best located hotels in central Rome, situated on a hill close to the Spanish Steps with fantastic views. This one is of the Vittorio Emanuele Monument, admittedly we used a zoom but it was a stunning sight.
It’s a pleasant walk or cab ride into town to see the Colosseum where we had a Flytographer photo shoot, visit St Peter’s and many lesser known gems. This hotel is located in a quiet Rome neighborhood despite being close to all the sights, and we slept very soundly.
Amenities at Hotel Eden Rome
All the rooms feature stylish Italian marble bathrooms and designer toiletries, together with a hairdryer, flat screen TV and free wifi. We liked the selection of writing paper in case you wish to put pen to paper. We were also provided with bottled water and a very welcome fruit platter.
The little extras are where the Hotel Eden really came into its own, as they had arranged lots of special touches for us. A chilled bottle of Vettori Italian sparkling wine awaited us on our return one day, and beautiful white roses the next evening.
They do vary these little extras but if you are celebrating something you might be lucky too. We were particularly taken with the turn-down sweet treat each evening, this is the “Good Night” one with a zingy lemon cupcake and the Dorchester Collection hashtag, #DCMoments.
It’s a very clever way of getting customers to share details of their stay on social media!
Hotel Eden Rome Bars and Dining
Don’t miss the spectacular views from the Giardino dell’Eden, the famous rooftop bar with a partially open terrace. We started with a refreshing non-alcoholic Eden Punch.
This tasty combination of orange, grapefruit and pineapple juice with grenadine syrup, mint and strawberry was the perfect thirst quencher after a day pounding the cobbles of Rome.
There was a pianist playing live in the adjacent indoor Bar La Terrazza which added to the ambiance as we watched the sun set slowly over the hills.
They’re known for their molecular cocktails and ice cream cups, perfect on a hot day. We couldn’t resist popping inside Le Caveau, the beautiful wine cellar where you can arrange private tasting sessions.
La Terrazza dell’Eden is the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant with views towards St Peter’s Dome and Villa Borghese and a very elegant decor. Head chef Fabio Ciervo oversees an Italian seasonal menu that’s the perfect choice for a business meeting or romantic dinner.
Unfortunately we didn’t have time to sample it on this occasion but it’s definitely on our must visit list for next time.
Breakfast at Hotel Eden Rome
There’s a real flair to the breakfast at the Hotel Eden, not only is the coffee branded with the Dorchester Collection logo, but the fresh pastries are a real delight. When we visited, they had created this edible Eiffel Tower to honour the collection’s two Parisian hotels. It would really be a pity to eat it!
I tend to order scrambled eggs as they’re quite hard to get just right, so a good test of a hotel’s culinary offering. These were cooked to perfection, accompanied by a very flavoursome smoked salmon and wonderful vine ripened tomatoes.
We really had a wonderful stay at Hotel Eden, and we’ll look forward to returning to see its new look. It’s definitely one of the best hotels in Rome city centre. All good things come to an end, and we were seen off in style with this thoughtful “arrivederci”.
Getting to Hotel Eden Rome
Our flight took us 2 and a half hours from London Heathrow, and it was then a smooth 45 minute taxi ride from Fiumicino to the hotel.
