Review of Lansdown Grove Hotel, Bath
Located atop a hill in one of the most prestigious areas of Bath, the Country Living Lansdown Grove Hotel has incredible views of the city.
The property is one of the oldest in Bath, yet it has been sympathetically restored with all mod cons. The inspiration behind the hotel is relaxed countryside style.
First Impressions of Lansdown Grove Hotel
Arriving at the imposing Grade II listed building, you’re struck by the perfect Regency proportions. The hotel dates from 1770 and is built from Bath stone, a honey coloured limestone. There is car parking at the front and rear of the property, for which a small fee is charged.
As you step into the hotel lobby, there’s an array of wellies to choose from. The hotel is popular with hikers and there are some lovely walks nearby.
We were invited to help ourselves to water infused with lemon juice before checking in. The friendly receptionist gave us some useful information about the hotel and the surrounding area.
Accommodation at Lansdown Grove Hotel
All the rooms have been beautifully designed in a classic yet cosy style, with some contemporary touches. If you’re arriving on a hot day, the hotel staff kindly turn on the fan in your room to cool it down beforehand.
When it’s colder, there are stylish bed throws to keep you extra warm. We have a Hypnos bed at home and were pleased to find that they have them in all the rooms here as they’re so comfortable.
There are four categories of rooms, Country Cosy, Country Classic, Country Superior and Country Premier. All of them have tea and coffee making facilities.
They’re also equipped with a flat screen TV, hairdryer and have complimentary WiFi. Our room also had a deluxe Tassimo coffee machine.
We love the quirky details like the reproduction vintage telephone. It works perfectly by the way!
Our Country Premier room had wonderful views of the city from its large double bay windows. It was wonderful to watch the colour of the stone buildings change as the day passed. Some rooms have balconies and small terraces and are ideal for those travelling with dogs.
The bathroom is very well designed, with a rainshower and luxury toiletries. We like the bath tiles so much that we’re thinking of having similar ones at home! There are comfy bathrobes and slippers to relax in during your stay.
Dining at Lansdown Grove Hotel
The stylish main dining room at Lansdown Grove Hotel really makes the most of its original period features. The high ceiling and large bay windows let the light come flooding in. Comfy leather chairs and an elegant chandelier.
The focus is on the best seasonal, local produce and tasty British and Mediterranean dishes. We enjoyed Welsh rarebit and bruschetta starters, followed by coq au vin and a perfectly seared salmon with new potatoes and baby cherry tomatoes.
A gooey chocolate fondant was the perfect ending. The waiting staff are very friendly and will advise you on the best wine to go with your meal.
We chose a glass of Chapel Down wine which is made in Kent, in keeping with the British theme. The restaurant is open to non residents for lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
For breakfast, you’ll be spoilt for choice with a tempting array of cereals, cheeses, fruit, fresh juices, yogurt and pastries. The cooked dishes such as Eggs Benedict and French toast are not to be missed.
There’s also a handpicked selection of coffee and teas. You can take breakfast either in the dining room or the garden room. We recommend this on a sunny day as there are French windows opening straight out onto the lawn.
Lansdown Grove Hotel Facilities
Aside from the stylish decor, what really stands out at Lansdown Grove is the sense of spaciousness. There are lots of rooms for guests to relax in, from the cosy library to the bar area and adjacent lounge.
There are also a couple of conference rooms, one with its own balcony.
Another highlight is the huge garden, which is a great place to relax on a nice day.

It’s a pleasant 15 minute walk down to the city centre, or you could take a taxi and be there in 5 minutes. There are so many things to see in Bath, from its Roman heritage to the charming boutiques and fascinating museums.
The city of Bath hosts many festivals and cultural events such as the Jane Austen Festival in September. Bath Christmas Market is hugely popular too. Here are just a few of the things that you can visit in Bath.

By Car
Take the M4, exit atJunction 18 and follow the A46 to Bath, then the A420 to Bristol. If coming from Bath city centre, follow the signs for Lansdown from Broad Street. There is a car park which has priority spaces that can be reserved for £10.00 a day.
By Train
Bath Spa train station is 10 minutes by taxi from the hotel, or it’s a 25 minute walk.

We love the mix of classic and contemporary style as well as city and rural charm at Lansdown Grove Hotel, Bath. You’ll find it hard to tear yourself away from the lovely gardens and cosy lounges. This is definitely one of the best boutique hotels in Bath.

I love Bath – particularly the Georgian architecture. The Lansdown looks ultra comfy – a real home from home. And the food looks excellent too.
