Brooks and Brooks Hair Salon – So Good They Named It Twice

With the festive season upon us, my hair was in need of some serious TLC, so I recently popped into Brooks+Brooks, a luxury salon on Sicilian Avenue, for a style refresh. The salon is co-owned by Jamie and Sally Brooks, both three times winner of the coveted title of London Hairdresser of the Year.

Sicilian Avenue is a picturesque pedestrianized street just off Kingsway and Holborn. Constructed in 1910, it takes its name from its distinctive Italian architecture and is home to a number of interesting shops and cafés.

Arriving at Brooks+Brooks, I admired their festive window displays.

Whilst inside the salon, there were some tasty biscuits for customers to help themselves to.

Fresh flowers added to the luxurious atmosphere – they have quite a few celebrity clients and the ambiance of the salon is upmarket but functional.

Brooks+Brooks have won a multitude of awards, including L’Oréal Colour Trophy Winner, Creative Head “Hair Visionary” and Hair Magazine Best Colourist.

I was introduced to my stylist, the lovely Nikita. She hails from New Zealand, where she won New Zealand’s Young Professional Stylist at the age of 18. This gave her a ticket to London’s renowned Vidal Sassoon Master Academy.

She immediately put me at my ease, asking me how I usually styled my hair and what sort of change I was hoping for. I was looking for a treatment to make my hair look shiny and boost the colour, plus a hair trim to make it easier to style when short of time.

Nikita took all that on board and selected a colour toning treatment that would give my hair renewed radiance and a more intense tone. Once the toner had been rinsed off, she gave my hair a trim, adding in layers at the sides.

She’d advised me to steer clear of layers at the back as my hair had layers that were growing out there, but she managed to even those out very well and it made my hair look thicker and better nourished at the ends. She was really skilled at blow drying, licking my wayward hair into shape with complete ease.

I felt that the end result looked very natural – so often I leave a salon and can’t wait to brush my hair to make it look less “done”, but that wasn’t the case here at all. The style held really well until the next wash and even then, it was less time consuming than usual to get it looking reasonable.

Brooks + Brooks review

Nikita asked me what hair products I was currently using, which is where I sheepishly admitted to currently using my husband’s favourite haircare, a well-known Antipodean brand. Apparently as my hair is quite dry, I need something more nourishing so I purchased a few L’Oréal and Kérastase products from the extensive ranges that they stock here.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Brooks+Brooks, and was really happy with my new look. They also offer wedding services such as the Aisle Dash, where you and your bridal party can come to the salon and each have your own stylist, access to Brooks+Brook’s bridal boudoir, with champagne and fresh pastries.

Alternatively, their Pampered Princess service provides you with a wedding stylist who comes to your home or hotel on the day of your wedding.

You know, I’ve spent much of my time since university days around Holborn (I was at LSE and currently work with a company based there) – but Sicilian Avenue has somehow missed my radar. A bit of pampering at Brook + Brook looks like the perfect excuse needed to head on over in the new year 🙂 xxx
