My Luxury September Adventures – A Champagne Filled Month!

It’s hard to believe that we’re already at the end of September as London basks in an Indian Summer. Much as I love Autumn, I’m in complete denial. Long may these warm days and nights last. We celebrated 5 years of marriage and some fun, luxury adventures, starting with…

The London Design Festival is a mainstay on my calendar as it involves all sorts of cool events. We enjoyed a few this year including Opticality by Lee Broom, the well-known designer.

The London Design Festival Party at the V&A was also a highlight.

I enjoyed a ladies networking breakfast club at Brown’s Hotel and a very healthy menu created by expert nutritionist Madeleine Shaw. My Shakshuka was a tasty combination of kale, cumin, baked eggs, greek yoghurt, olives and labneh cheese.

Lalique is such a classic brand and I had fun at the launch of their new boutique in Burlington Arcade, chatting to talented concert pianist Yuko Sano and admiring their stylish vases.

lalique_launchLast night I joined Instagramers London on a Barbican Centre Lates meetup. They had set some fun challenges like photographing an empty tunnel, a reflection and an example of abstract brutalism – of which there were plenty!

As you know, I love a hidden gem and Backes & Strauss qualifies in more ways than one, being the world’s oldest diamond company. Established in 1789, they’re experts in watch-making and diamond cutting. I popped into their Mayfair showroom recently to find out more about their illustrious history and to try on some of their fabulous watches. Their collections take inspiration from 19th century Regency London, yet they have a contemporary twist that makes them very wearable.

backes__strauss_watch_review Recycling is a hot trend right now and Elvis and Kresse excel in this area. They take unusual items such as decommissioned fire-hose and transform them into stylish weekend bags, belts and travel accessories. Even the lining has been recycled, having previously graced the tables of British wedding receptions. The easy access external pocket and internal zip pockets come in very handy. There’s no danger of your bags being mistaken for anyone else’s as these are completely unique. What’s great is that 50 percent of profits from the fire-hose range goes to the Fire Fighters Charity.

elvisandkresse_londonI don’t know about you but when my hair is looking alright I can take on the world. Travelling can be a bit of a challenge, making my hair frizzy and unmanageable. That’s why I was pleased to try out the ISA Mirror Titanium hair straightener. Coincidentally it matched my dress but most importantly, it transformed my unruly locks in record time. So easy to use and it hardly weighs anything – the perfect travelling companion.

isa_professional_haircareLUXURY ADVENTURES – TRAVEL TALES

September kicked off with a stylish staycation at the Sofitel St James, and a few days later I headed on a city safari around some of the finest Small Luxury Hotels in London. I then had a champagne-filled week with a trip to Hampshire with Laurent-Perrier, one to Paris with PIPER-HEIDSIECK, and to Jersey to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food at Michelin starred Bohemia was incredible, as was another Michelin starred restaurant, Ocean at The Atlantic. We also loved our anniversary lunch at Mark Jordan on the Beach. I then fitted in a short trip to Bergamo in Italy with S. Pellegrino. This charming town is hoping to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has a lot going for it as you can see.

Who can resist a waffle? I’m talking of course about the food, not a lengthy conversation! London’s very own Waffle Lion serves up some of the best at his lively pop ups. Miriam and I went along to the latest at The Common Room and found it hard to decide which we preferred. The Ragstone goat’s cheese and caramelized onion was possibly my fave although the unusual pulled mutton and pomegranate came close, as did the gorgeous blackberry waffle.

waffle_lion_pop_upWe loved the views at Coppa Club Tower Bridge and they’re equally impressive at Coppa Club St Paul’s. With a very stylish interior, delicious dishes and friendly staff, I can see why their group is growing so fast.

coppa_club_st_pauls_reviewRoyal China is close to my heart as Paul and I went there for lunch on our first date. He knew that I was visiting Hong Kong afterwards and had chosen it on purpose. I’d never been to their Fulham restaurant though, so it was good to visit this informal neighbourhood eatery. Their dim sum menu is a real treat – prawn gyozas were a highlight as were the pork puffs, so light and airy. The chicken with chili had quite a kick!

royal_china_fulham_reviewI’m a big fan of The Jones Family Project, a casual and quirky restaurant in Shoreditch, regularly popping in for their £10 roasts. Their meat comes from The Ginger Pig, undoubtedly one of the best butchers in London. I returned there with Mel to sample their burger and bourbon pop-up which runs until the end of October and is great fun.

We’re heading to Venice, which I’ve been meaning to visit for years, and making a welcome return trip to Brussels for some exciting art and luxury events. Then we’re off to Connemara in Ireland to stay in a magical castle and finally I’ll be driving a McLaren supercar at Goodwood to round off the month. Hope you enjoyed reading our luxury adventures.
What was your September like? Are you excited that Autumn is here or sad that Summer is over?

    • Oh that’s really sweet, Amy – luckily I had the straighteners to sort my hair out. It was certainly a busy month. I’m always impressed with how chic you look whilst pregnant, perhaps you could do a “my fave pregnancy outfits” afterwards as yours are definitely the best I’ve seen

  • Hi Suze,

Congrats on your 5 year anniv! Awesome. As are the photos, food and fun. We are prepping for a wedding today. Wifey can use the hair straightener. She showered last night and did her hair to prevent “same day poofyness” but weather not communicating here. Cold, stormy and windy, and we have a 2 plus hour ride to get to the wedding. Thank the gods I have short hair. Maybe we can rush order the hair straightener? 😉

    Thanks for sharing Suze 🙂

PS….you have such a first class blog in more ways than one. Keep up the inspired work!
