Awarded Best Greek Spa Resort and Best Greek New Resort at the Greek Hospitality Awards 2021, Angsana Corfu Resort & Spa is an impressive addition to the island’s hotel offering.
With a great location overlooking the Ionian Sea, Angsana is a short walk from the local village of Benitses. Here’s our detailed review of Angsana Corfu.
First Impressions of Angsana Corfu
Opened in June 2021, this five star hotel is the first European property of Angsana Hotels. This collection of luxury spa resorts are part of the Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts group. Situated on Corfu, one of the most beautiful islands in Greece, this resort offers a host of activities off and on-property.
Accommodation at Angsana Corfu
There are 159 rooms and suites at Angsana Corfu, as well as 39 villas with private plunge pools.
Our Ionian Seaview Junior Suite had a spacious terrace with panoramic views of Benitses Bay, equipped with a daybed, table and chairs. Inside, Angsana Junior Suites have all mod cons including air-con, a safe and 2 large flat screen TVs. During our stay, we had an issue with our safe not opening, which was quickly resolved by housekeeping.
There’s a stylish bathtub, separate power shower and twin washbasins. We love the embroidered towels and the his and hers vanity kits.
Inside the wardrobe you’ll find two sets of bathrobes – a vibrant orange one and a white towelling emroidered robe. There are also matching slippers and water bottle covers. If you take a fancy to any of these, you can buy them at the Angsana Gallery shop in the spa.
There’s ample storage space for your clothes, although we’d like to see skirt and trouser hangers and more basic clothes hangers.
The bed is huge and extremely comfortable. As well as standard pillows, there are a couple of memory pillows in the closet.
There’s a daily turn down service where water is replenished, incense is lit and you’re left an inspiring note of the day.
Facilities at Angsana Corfu
There’s a 250 square meter gym featuring the latest fitness equipment, as well as several exercise studios and a yoga deck overlooking the infinity pool.
Below Angsana Gym you’ll find the 25 meter indoor swimming pool, together with a sauna, steam room and hot tub in the male and female changing rooms. In accordance with Greek Covid-19 regulations, these facilities are currently closed apart from the swimming pool itself. We’d love to see an outdoor hot tub at Angsana Corfu.
The Indoor Pool is heated, though quite cool, so keep moving to stay warm. There’s also the Juice Bar next to this pool for smoothies and light bites.
The hotel’s star attraction is its huge Outdoor Infinity Pool, one of the best infinity pools in Greece. Although its unheated, you won’t be able to resist getting a selfie here! We visited in October 2021 and the water was pretty cold but just about bearable for a quick photo opportunity.
Angsana Corfu also has a sizeable conference facility and the Ranger’s Club for kids.
Angsana Spa
One of the largest spas in Greece, it has a yoga terrace, several outdoor pavilions and 11 treatment rooms including several with floor to ceiling windows and infinity pool views. We had an Angsana Express couples massage which was highly effective. Akin to a sports massage, this thirty minute treatment is an ideal way to soothe tired muscles.
There’s a large relaxation room where you can enjoy a herbal tea after your massage. If you prefer, you can opt for a poolside massage in a sitting chair.
Angsana Private Beach
A short hop from Angsana Corfu by golf buggy, this private beach is currently closed due to the recent storms in Corfu. Normally, there’s the Emerald beach bar, sun loungers and a watersports hut.
Angsana Restaurants and Bars
We tried two restaurants during our stay at Angsana Corfu:
- Ruen Romsai – an a la carte buffet restaurant, which means that you can see the list of dishes on a menu. We were impressed with the quality and variety of food on offer. From Greek specialties such as baklava to freshly made pizzas and seafood, there’s something for all tastes.
- Sofrito – for poolside views and Greek food, this is a great choice. We enjoyed a selection of dishes such as corn fritters, beef cheeks and moussaka.
We can also recommend healthy smoothies from the Juice Bar.
There are several other dining options at Angsana:
- Botrini’s – a Mediterranean fine dining experience from a Michelin starred chef.
- Koh – an Asian fusion sushi restaurant open in the evenings
- Sunrise Pool Bar – for light bites and snacks.
- A Lounge – specialty coffee, drinks and homemade desserts.
- Starboard Lounge – evening snacks and drinks with views of the Bay of Benitses.
- V Lounge – a cosy meeting place with a good selection of spirits.
Breakfast is a relaxed affair, with poolside views and a wide range of options. From healthy salads to freshly prepared hot dishes, you definitely won’t go hungry.
A special mention for our waitresses Dimitra, Sophia and Efi, who are knowledgeable and very friendly. They’re also great with children. Angsana is definitely a child friendly hotel, with a kid’s paddling pool next to the infinity pool.
Things to Do Near Angsana Corfu
You can walk to the town of Benitsides in around 20 minutes or less. There’s also a shuttle bus every hour to and from Benitsides from 7 to 10 pm. We dined at 2 good restaurants in Benitsides: Oi Oraies Benitses and Paxinos.
Also close to Angsana is Achilleion Palace. We didn’t get time to visit, however this Corfu landmark is known as the former home of Sissi, Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
Another interesting activity is a tour and tasting at The Governor’s Olive Mill. Producers of The Governor olive oil, the Dafnis family give a fun tour followed by a tasting of their award winning extra virgin olive oil. Giorgos and Spyros have each created their own olive oil blend, so there’s an amicable rivalry between the brothers as to which olive oil is best. We’ll leave it up to you to decide which you prefer if you visit!
We also highly recommend a trip to Corfu Town. This famous Greek city has many historic buildings.
There are also lots of clothes boutiques and bars. Enjoy a drink on The Liston, a historic pedestrian street with an arched arcade.
You can also visit the birthplace of the late Prince Philip, Mon Repos, as well as the Old Fortress and New Fortress of Corfu. The Museum of Asian Art in the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint George is the only museum in Greece dedicated to Asian .
Getting to Angsana Corfu
There are many daily international flights to Corfu Airport. From here, it’s just 12 kilometers and a pleasant 20 minute drive to Angsana Corfu.
You can also take car ferries from Italy and Igoumenitsa, Patra and Piraeus in Greece, arriving at Lefkimmi Port. From here, it’s a 40 minute transfer to the resort.
Final Thoughts on Angsana Corfu
Set to become a fixture on the Greek hospitality scene, this new Corfu hotel has an amazing location and great facilities.
We particularly rate the resort cleanliness, the infinity pool, gym and varied breakfast options. Angsana Corfu’s drivers, in particular Kris and Elias, also gave us great insights into the local culture on Corfu Island.
