In this hectic world that we live in, finding a sense of balance can be tough. Pollution and stress can take their toll on the skin, leaving it dull and lifeless. New luxury brand KITA aims to address these issues and to restore balance to help you look and feel more beautiful. Their moisturizing serum takes personalized skincare to a whole new level.
The range is inspired by the Five Elements, the ancient philosophy behind Feng Shui and acupuncture, yet with a modern approach. You take a quick online test to determine your dominant element, whether Earth, Fire, Metal, Water or Wood. KITA had invited Mr Luxe and I to trial the serums, and I turned out to be Fire whereas he is Earth. It’s an interesting concept, but the main question for us was would it make a difference to our skin? The serums use the most luxurious and effective ingredients that work in synergy to revitalize skin. They all contain an active base blend, including platinum to improve appearance and elasticity, red algae for long lasting hydration, matrikines for skin renewal, bluebird hibiscus for anti-oxidant protection and poet’s narcissus for skin brightening. Each element has additional ingredients, in Mr Luxes’ case these were black oat, dipeptide, moonstone micro gems, vitamins A and E plus a mineral complex of iron, zinc, silicon and magnesium.
Whereas my Fire Serum had some intriguing ingredients – volcanic spring powder, baobab oil, hyaluronic filling spheres and ruby micro gems. The packaging is very elegant, from the box that the serum comes in to the pump that effortlessly dispenses just the right amount of product. So many times, I’ve struggled with getting anything out of pumps, but there was no such difficulty with this. In case you’re wondering, the backdrop to this photo is the Ai Wei Wei exhibit in the courtyard of The Royal Academy – well worth a visit.
The slimline design makes the serum perfect for travellers who need hydration on a plane, a soothing effect in heat and protection on the slopes. It was created by Chiara Vania whose parents, Dr Anna Maria Storti and Dr Michele Vania have incorporated the Five Elements philosophy in their daily practices, along with traditional western medicine for over 35 years. Since Anna-Maria is an expert in aesthetic medicine and facial acupuncture, she worked with KITA’s facialist to create a specific massage to complement each Moisturising Serum Complex, and Michele, an expert in bio-resonance therapy, worked with the KITA chemists so that the ingredients helped to rebalance each element.
The serums have a very subtle scent, which is great as I’m not keen on heavily fragranced skincare. The first thing you notice when applying the serum is how light the consistency is. A cross between a cream and a gel, it’s easy to apply and sinks straight in. Mr Luxe has been rather negligent with his skin care regime of late, as he hates the feel of heavy cream on his face. He was pleased to see that this was non-sticky and his face looked instantly smoother. Of course that’s a topical effect, but with long term use I’m hopeful that it would have a lasting action. As for me, it’s hard to explain but it felt almost like a protective film on my face, and was a very pleasant sensation. I’ve found it a great addition to my skincare routine, combined with KITA’s massage techniques. My skin looks more rested and has increased radiance. It’s very handy to take to the office too, as it’s been proven that your work environment can affect your skin’s health. If you work in an air conditioned office or an overheated one, it’s a good idea to increase yor water intake and to reapply moisturiser at lunchtime. Try to take a break outside, as just 20 minutes of sunlight can provide you with enough vitamin D needed to keep skin healthy.
You can discover your element online and also in the exclusive new Astro Lounge on the Lower Ground level at Selfridges. Retailing for £155, it’s an investment that your skin will thank you for.

I really like the packaging for starters! I do enjoy a light serum, at the moment I use Clarins Double Serum at night which works really nicely, however it’s great to hear of lighter options for the day.
Lovely post!

The 5 elements is a very interesting concept and quite different from astrology where I’m an Earth sign and Mr Luxe is a water sign
