Supper Club – Jenius Social

I’d had a fantastic time at Jenius Social’s Mexican cookery class, so couldn’t wait to try out their new Supper Club. I’ve had a great time at other supperclubs recently, including Cuisson Pop Down and the Brooklyn Brewery. Jenius Social runs a huge range of foodie events – classes, private dining, supperclubs and they even have an on-site deli. I was here to experience their Tapas Fusion evening, cooked by head chef Malcolm Emmanueil. An inviting table awaited us in the bright and airy space.

Like the menu, our fellow guests were also a fusion of different cultures: Mexican, Spanish and British but all sharing a love of food. It was fascinating hearing about their lives and also getting their tips on the top places to eat. The meal kicked off with a delicious and colourful mackerel prepared in 3 ways: ceviche, escabeche and tartar. This was one of my favourite dishes.

Jennifer Yong, the founder of Jenius Social, joined us for dinner and it was really interesting to hear about her experiences. Next up was a mouthwatering tortilla with fusion guacamole. This was an original combination of avocado, mango, dragon fruits and wasabi that worked very well.

We moved on to a twice-cooked Gressingham duck with saffron quinoa and orange honey reduction. It tasted as good as it looked.

The Brazilian inspired free-range chicken fillet with pancetta and orange peanuts was a stand-out dish. The peanuts gave it a satisfying crunch.

After this, we tasted Matambre, which is an Argentinian dish with rolled beef skirt and Madeira glaze. It was really delicious, although we were starting to feel rather full at this stage!

Our desert was sushi samba, an unusual mix of banana, rum, rice, pistachio and doce de leite. A great finale to a fabulous meal!

I can highly recommend Jenius Social and their Supperclub, we met some really interesting people in a relaxed setting. Just don’t eat much for lunch!
